Coming from a press and documentary photography background, Alasdair McBroom has allowed this experience to influence his wedding photography and now produces some of the most refreshingly unique wedding portfolios available.
Alasdair, Big Glass Eye’s sole photographer, started taking professional pictures twenty years ago. After attending Art College he developed a style that began a trademark look – simple photographs with a few very strong compositional elements.
Moving into press work, Alasdair started to get experience in dealing with people in pictures. This invaluable knowledge helped him sense when something was about to happen and this style has now surfaced in the wedding photography for which he is renowned.
Alasdair’s style remains up-market. His portfolios are a collection of images that are eloquent and self-supporting; they tell the story of a wedding in a consistently beautiful style and quality. Alasdair never got involved in the traditional approach to wedding photography but chose instead to watch how weddings unfolded. Taking control and removing the emotion and spontaneity from the day was never really an option. Capturing the decisive moments became paramount and with this in mind, Alasdair works quietly and unobtrusively and approaches his subjects with integrity.
Over the years Alasdair has collected numerous awards for his press photography and still shoots for national and international titles, finding it a good way of keeping on top of how to react to unfolding situations.
Based in Islandmagee, fifteen miles north of Belfast, Alasdair shoots a limited number of weddings every year throughout Northern and Southern Ireland and the UK. For enquiries please use the availability and bookings link at the top of the page.
